darjeelingSituation in Darjeeling continues to be tense but no case of major violence has been reported Sunday. Incidents of setting fire a government library room in Kalimpong, and a police vehicle by the Morcha supporters have been reported. A procession organized by Morcha today observing black day in Darjeeling. The procession marked the protest of death of three Morcha supporters by alleged police firing yesterday at Chowk Bazar in Darjeeling. But the state top police administration rejected the death of anyone in police firing.

Meanwhile, Morcha leadership has ruled out any talks with the state government in view of ongoing agitation in Darjeeling demanding Gorkhaland. But the leadership expressed willingness to talk with the central government. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee rejected holding any talks with Morcha leaders until the agitating outfit stops violent activities. Ms. Banerjee said that this agitation is a conspiracy against her government. She also blamed suspected foreign hand militant link to the agitation.

Opposing the Morcha’s violent activities, the Adibasi Vikash Parishad has called for peace procession in Darjeeling. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh in a Tweet advocated talks and negotiations to restore peace there. Mr. Singh also appeals to all parties in Darjeeling to remain peaceful.
