Yechury meets Sonia to discuss common presidential candidate

CPIM General Secretary Sitaram Yechuri met Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and is learnt to have discussed the possibility of fielding a common opposition candidate for the presidential poll.

CPIM has also held informal discussions on the issue with NCP leader Sharad Pawar and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad.

Bihar Chief Minister and JDU chief, Nitish Kumar also met Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi yesterday. He called for a joint opposition candidate for the election to the President’s post.

Party spokesperson K C Tyagi said, Nitish Kumar has also taken up the matter with leaders of the Left parties.

President Pranab Mukherjee’s term ends in July this year.
