BJP today removed Sanjay Kumar from the post of Uttarakhand general secretary (organisation) after after allegations of sexual harassment by woman party worker. A former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak, Kumar had been the BJP Uttarakhand general secretary (organisation) for the past seven years.

On Sunday, Amar Ujala had published a report where a woman, who is a BJP worker in Dehradun, had raised allegations of sexual harassment against Kumar. Kumar had been sexually exploiting the woman for about five years and several complains of the harassment to various party leaders had gone unacknowledged, the newspaper report said.

After the allegations, while there were rumours that Kumar had been removed from the post of the BJP Uttarakhand general secretary (organisation), the party leaders had remained tight-lipped about it.

However, on Thursday, while addressing the media, Uttarakhand BJP president Ajay Bhatt said, “After the sexual harassment allegations, he (Kumar) had submitted a written request to the party’s central leadership asking that he must be removed from the post of Uttarakhand general secretary (organisation). The central leadership has accepted the request and he has been removed from the post.”

A former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak, Kumar had been the BJP Uttarakhand general secretary (organisation) for the past seven years. “A newspaper report had published a story where a female BJP worker had raised allegations of sexual harassment against him (Kumar), but the concerned woman has not come forward with any written complaint. The party has no proof of any sexual harassment allegations against Kumar,” Bhatt said.

The woman who had raised the allegations against Kumar could not be reached for comments. In another such incident in 2005, BJP’s Sanjay Joshi was made to resign from all party posts after a sex CD had surfaced that allegedly showed Joshi in a compromising position with a woman.
