Urdu belongs to all citizens: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Ghulam Nabi AzadSenior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday said that Urdu language belonged to all citizens but certain people were dividing people in the name of language.

Mr Azad was in city to participate in the Golden Jubliee Foundation Day function of Urdu daily ‘Aurangabad Times’ at Aam Khas Maidan here.

Editor-in-Chief of the daily Shoaeb Khusro, Managing Editor Shakeeb Kuhusro and Executive Editor Zoheb Khusaro, Lokmat Editor-in-Chief Rajendra Darda, Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, MLA Abu Azami, MP Chandrakant Khare, NCP leader Fouzia Khan, RJD MP Manoj Jha, all Aurangabad local MLAs, MLC, among others dignitaries, were present on the dias.

Mr Azad said,’Now a days elections are being contested in the name of religion.’

He pointed out that elected representatives were there to protect and safeguard weaker and minority communities in the country.

Alleging that the prominent parties in the country were dividing people in the name of religion, he said indicated that the country was moving towards wrong direction.

‘Main threat to the country was from us and not from outsiders. If somebody tries to create hatred between Hindu and Muslims, we should convince them humbly,’ he said.

Speaking on this occasion, Ms Fouzia Khan said the atmosphere in the country was not good because situation was like undeclared emergency.

Manoj Jha said all should be ready to fight together against communal forces which were dividing the people in the name of religion.

Former State Chief Minister Ashok Chavan alleged that government was trying to pressurise media through different means and not providing advertisements to those newspapers who raised voice against it.
