UP govt recommends CBI probe into Unnao rape case


Uttar Pradesh government has decided to lodge FIR against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, and others and hand over the investigation to CBI. The Principle Secretary Home of the State Arvind Kumar has said that the decision has been taken after examing the report of the Special Investigation Team SIT submitted by the by ADG Lucknow Zone Rajeev Krishna.

The Allahabad High Court will take up the case today for hearing. A bench of the court headed by the Chief Justice of the court Justice BD Bhosale yesterday took suo motu cognisance of the matter and issued notice to the government. The court has directed the Advocate General or Additional Advocate General to appear before the court.

Acting on a request by senior advocate Gopal S. Chaturvedi for a court-monitored probe, the court admitted his letter as a Public Interest Litigation plea. The court has requested Mr. Chaturvedi to appear in the case as amicus curiae. UP government has also decided to hand over Investigation of the death of alleged rape victim’s father under judicial custody.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Safipur of Unnao district Kunwar Bahadur Singh has been suspended for negligence in handling the repeated complaints given by the victim of the alleged gang rape. Similarly two Doctors namely Dr D K Dwivedi CMS of Unnao district hospital and Dr Prashant Upadhyay have been suspended and disciplinary proceedings initiated against three other doctors for laxity in giving proper medical care and treatment to the father of the girl both prior to judicial custody and on referral from jail while in judicial custody.

These actions have been taken on the report of District Magistrate. DIG jail has also submitted a separate enquiry report on the role of Jail administration. The Allahabad High Court will also take up the case today for hearing. The court has issued notice to the government in the case taking sue moto cognisance of the incident.
