Ujjawala Yojana empowers women: President Kovind

President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday said Ujjawala Yojana for providing LPG connections to women will empower them.

At a function in Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Pradhan Mantri LPG panchayat, Mr Kovind said Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana (PMUY) has brought smiles on the faces of crores of families.

Mr Kovind complimented Petroleum ministry’s target to distribute LPG connections to over 8 crore beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Petrolium Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said LPG connections aimed at encouraging rural communities to turn to clean fuel.

He said, it has saved lives of lakhs of women who die due to health complications arising out of use of traditional means of fuel like wood.

More than hundred women are participating in the Pradhan Mantri LPG panchayat. The Panchayat was launched in September last year.
