US President Donald Trump has lauded India’s efforts to lift millions of its citizens out of poverty, into the middle class. He was addressing world leaders at the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York last night. The US President called India a free society and part of a beautiful constellation of countries working for a common future.

On the trade war with China, Mr Trump said, he has great respect and affection for Chinese President Xi Jinping, but the trade imbalance is just not acceptable.

The US President praised North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for taking steps to denuclearize the Korean peninsula. He, however, said much work still had to be done and sanctions must remain in place for now.

Mr Trump attacked the Iranian leadership, accusing it of sowing chaos, death and destruction across West Asia. He defended his decision to abandon the 2015 nuclear deal with world leaders and Iran and urged the world governments to isolate Tehran.

In his speech at the UNGA, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani accused his US counterpart of trying to topple his government. He said it is ironic that the US government does not even conceal its plan for overthrowing the same government it invites to talks.
