Trump-Kim historic summit begins in Singapore

The historic delegation level talks between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is underway in Singapore.

Before they met for delegation level talks, the two leaders held a brief one-on-one meeting at the Capella Hotel in Sentosa Island. Talking to media persons after the one-on-one meting, US president said that both the nations have a terrific relationship ahead and this historic summit would be successful.

Sitting next to US president, North Korea leader said there were a number of obstacles to the meeting. He said, it was not easy to have reached where North Korea and US reached today. Kim said they have overcome old prejudices to arrive at this stage.

The bilateral summit between both the countries is aimed at normalising bilateral ties and complete denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula. It was the first time a sitting US president met a North Korean leader in the last 60 years.

Earlier US President Donald Trump told North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that they will “solve a big problem” and “a big dilemma.”

Trump made the remarks at the start of an expanded session of their summit meeting in Singapore on Tuesday, attended by their aides.

Trump also told Kim that they will be “successful” and that “it will be done.”
