A number of Students, parents and teachers have expressed their apprehension over Supreme Court order that entrance exams for MBBS and BDS courses to go on as per the schedule on May 1.
The Supreme Court today said that entrance exams for MBBS and BDS courses through NEET will go on as per the schedule. (May 1)
The apex court said, it is not going to have the bench to hear the matter today, adding that it will be heard in due course after the parties file applications seeking modification of its order.
The Centre today moved the Supreme Court seeking modification of yesterday’s order to allow state governments and private colleges to hold separate entrance examinations for MBBS and BDS courses for the academic year 2016-17.The plea in this regard was mentioned by Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi before a bench of Justices A R Dave and A K Goel.
The AG suggested that the order passed by the apex court yesterday had allowed holding of a two-phased single common entrance test for MBBS, BDS and PG courses through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on May 1 and July 24 but there appear to be some genuine difficulties and there is a need for some change in the order.
He suggested that the first phase of NEET scheduled for May 1 be scrapped and all the students be allowed to take the exams on July 24. Rohatgi said there was a need to modify yesterday’s order as there was a lot of confusion arising out of it.
Meanwhile Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) today opposed Supreme Court’s decision to hold National Entrance and Eligibility Test (NEET) as entrance exam for medical courses.
DMK President M Karunanidhi urged the Central government to not the new rule be imposed on students of Tamil Nadu. Reportedly, Karunadhi urged the State to places it arguments that the decision has been made taking into consideration the interest of social justice. PMK Chief Anbumani Ramadoss said that NEET would shatter rural students’s dreams.
MPs oppose 1st phase of common entrance test for MBBS, BDS
Several members Lok Sabha today opposed holding of the first phase of common entrance test for MBBS and BDS courses on this Sunday saying it gives little time to students for preparation.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court had agreed to the Centre’s plan of two-phased common entrance exam for medical courses to be held on 1st of May and 24th of July.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Jagdambika Pal of BJP said a single-phase test should be held on 24th of July to give all students equal time for preparation.
He said, the two dates for National Eligibility Entrance Test will give advantage to students taking the exam in the latter phase and the students who have to appear for it this Sunday would be under stress. His demand also got support of other members of the House.
