scOur Correspondent / New delhi

The Supreme Court today agreed to hear a plea seeking an independent probe into the death of special CBI judge BH Loya, who was hearing the alleged Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. The plea will be heard tomorrow.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, today took note of the submission seeking an urgent hearing on the plea for a probe into Loya’s death. The plea was filed by a Maharashtra-based journalist. He submitted that a fair probe was needed into the death.

Loya had died of a cardiac arrest in Nagpur, when he had gone to attend a wedding on 1st December 2014.

The issue came under the spotlight in November last year after media reports quoting Loya’s sister fuelled suspicion about the circumstances surrounding his death and its link to the case.

A total of 23 accused, including police personnel, are facing trial for their involvement in the case.
