Electrification completed in one-third of un-electrified villages: Piyush Goyal

AMN /

Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal has said that, the Government has completed electrification work in nearly one-third of the 18,452 un-electrified villages. He told reporters in New Delhi that 5,026 villages have been electrified. He also said electrification works in these villages faced several challenges as most of the areas were Naxal-hit, besides having hilly terrain and dense forestation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced in his Independence Day speech last year that all un-electrified villages shall get electricity within 1,000 days. The Centre has decided to provide power to all villages by 1st May 2018.
