Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi today slammed the Delhi government and Centre over the non payment of salaries to MCD Safai Karamcharis. He also came down heavily on the BJP, which controls all the three municipal corporations in the city.
Mr Gandhi said both the AAP and BJP are making excuses on the issue and playing blame game. The Congress vice-president visited East Delhi Municipal Corporation office and interacted with striking workers. The strike has turned east Delhi into a huge garbage dump over the past 10 days. Around 12,000 sanitation workers are refusing to work until they get their salaries.
The BJP, which controls all the three municipal corporations in the city, has accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of not releasing the money to pay the salaries of the MCD employees. The AAP, however, says it is the outcome of mishandling of finances by the corporations.
Speaking on the issue, Congress Spokesperson Tom Vadakkan said, 15,000 tonnes of garbage is lying around in Delhi and AAP is making the people suffer. He said, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister should immediately resolve the issue. He said, Essential Services Maintenance Act ESMA should be invoked to stop any epidemic.
