The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM will begin in London tomorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take part in the event on April 19th and 20th. Security has been strengthened in and around the venues ahead of the summit.
The theme of the summit is -Towards a Common Future. The biennial event has brought together delegates from 53 Commonwealth nations. The summit will focus on addressing common challenges across the Commonwealth for a more prosperous, secure and sustainable future.
Commonwealth is a multilateral organization known for its focus on the development issues that confront small States and small Island developing States. India considers that the Commonwealth comprises of a very diverse set of 53 countries ranging from small island developing states to some of the most advanced industrialized countries of the world.
All these countries have come together due to their shared commitment to democracy, peace and justice and the promotions of citizen’s rights. Ahead of the formal Heads of Government Meeting on Thursday and Friday, there will be three days of forums on Business, Women, People and Youth.
The Youth, Women’s and People’s Forum will take place at The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster while the Business Forum will be held at Guildhall in the City of London.
