PM meet with economists, experts; focus on farmer

PMPrime Minister Narendra Modi today attended an interactive session with over 40 economists and other sectors experts here. Prime Minister’s interaction them focused on finding ways to doubling farmers’ income.

The issue was discussed at length during the meeting at NITI Aayog in New Delhi where over 40 economists and experts were present.

NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said, Mr. Modi interacted with experts and secretaries who shared their views on various economic themes such as macro-economy, agriculture and rural development, employment, health and education, manufacturing and exports, urban development, infrastructure and connectivity.

He said, experts advocated for shifting focus from agricultural production to raising farmers income by improving productivity, lowering costs and greater market access.

In his intervention, Mr. Modi thanked the participants for their suggestions and observations. He appreciated the quality of suggestions that had come from various subject experts.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley thanked all the participants for their thought-provoking suggestions.

The meeting was attended by several Union Ministers including Radha Mohan Singh, R K Singh and NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar, among others.

The meeting came in the backdrop of latest estimates of national income by Central Statistics Office which showed that India’s growth is expected to slow down to a four- year low of 6.5 per cent this fiscal, the lowest under the Modi-led government.
