PM asks industrialists to treat labourers with respect

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked industrialists to change their mindset towards labourers and treat them with respect. Speaking at the inauguration of Indian Labour Conference in New Delhi, Prime minister said unless there was a feeling of togetherness between labourers and industrialists, no enterprise could prosper.

Expressing confidence that his government will be able to bring in reforms, the Prime Minister said his effort will be to simplify laws so that even the poor are able to understand their rights and avail them.

He said industrialists should encourage their labourers to become entrepreneurs and not keep them in same job for decades. Expressing disappointment that India has only 30 lakh apprentices, he asked the corporate houses to hire more apprentices as part of social responsibility.

The Prime minister said that his government was making all effort to simplify labour laws. He urged everyone to recognise and award innovations done by workers. Mr Modi urged industrialists to hire apprentices. He said unless there is a feeling of togetherness between labourers and industrialists, no enterprise can prosper.

The Prime minister said, the government has come up with three important schemes to ensure social security for even the unorganised labour. He said all the labourers medical records will now be available online .

Prime minister said, the government has increased minimum pension to one thousand rupees.

Speaking on the occasion, Finance minister Arun Jaitley said sluggish industry will never be able to create jobs. Mr Jaitley said a rational taxation system will be able to create jobs.

The finance minister said, a high growth rate will always protect workmen and labour interest .Saying investment important for development of economy, Mr Jaitley said if fountains of investment stopped, economy activity will come to a halt.

Minister of labour and employmet Bandaru Dattatreya said the Centre would soon issue smart cards to the workers of the unorganised sector to enable them to access a number of social security benefits.

The Prime minister launched national career service portal and Employee State Health Insurance corporation health reforms agenda ESIC 2.0.
