European Union (EU) states have agreed to work towards setting up a joint blacklist of tax havens in the wake of the Panama Paper leaks.
At a meeting in Brussels yesterday, 28 EU Finance ministers gave their political endorsement for setting up the list.
The ministers also agreed to automatically exchange information on the beneficial owners of companies, another move that may increase transparency and reduce tax evasion.
So far, the EU and some of its member nations have had several different tax haven lists, which have mostly been ineffective.
