Nearly 3 lakh affected due to flood in Assam

Two lakh 65 thousand people have been affected due to floods in 14 districts of Assam. Barpeta and Lakhimpur are among the worst affected districts. State Disaster Management Authority in Guwahati said that above 705 villages are reeling under the fury of floods. Around 10 thousand hectare of crop land has also been affected in the recent surge of water. Roads, culvert, bridges have been damaged causing difficulties in movement of vehicles. 5 relief camps have been set up where 338 affected people are taking shelter.

Ferry services have also been suspended at several places. NDRF teams have been deployed at Lakhimpur, Tinsukia and Barpeta district. The Brahmaputra and some of its tributaries are maintaining a rising trend. State government has asked the district officials to provide relief to flood hit people besides rescue and rehabilitation.
