Manipur: Process of Assembly elections begins

The process of Assembly elections in Manipur began today with the issuance of notification for the first phase. 38 seats of the 60-member Assembly will go to polls in the first phase on the 4th of next month. The late date of filing of nominations is the 14th of this month, while withdrawal of candidature can be done till the 18th.

Second phase of polling in Manipur will be held on 8th of next month. In Uttar Pradesh, notification has been issued today for the sixth phase of seven-phase polls. 49 constituencies will go to polls in the sixth phase on the 4th of next month.

The constituencies are spread over seven districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh adjoining the Indo-Nepal border and Bihar. February 14 is the last date for filing of nominations for the phase, while scrutiny would be done on February 16.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations till February 18. Scrutiny of nominations is also taking place today for the fourth phase, in which polling will be held in 53 Assembly segments on the 23rd of this month.
