Leander Paes lifts Santo Domingo Open trophy

PAES
Indian tennis legend Leander Paes won his second Challenger-level title of the season, lifting the Santo Domingo Open trophy with partner Miguel Angel Reyyes-Varela yesterday.

The second-seeded Indo- Mexican pair, playing its second consecutive final, came from behind to beat Ariel Behar and Roberto Quiroz 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the summit clash, which lasted one hour and 26 minutes in Santo Domingo, the capital of Dominican Republic.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic continued his superb form by beating Croatia’s Borna Coric in the final of the Shanghai Masters. The second seed beat 21-year-old Coric 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 37 minutes to claim his fourth Shanghai Tennis title.

Coric, the 13th seed, upset Roger Federer in yesterday’s semi-finals to reach his first Masters 1000 final. Djokovic, 31, now has 18 consecutive wins since losing at the Rogers Cup and the Serb will replace Federer as world number two from today.
