Lankan Coast Guard arrest 12 Indian fishermen

12 Indian fishermen and two fishing trawlers were caught by Sri Lankan Coast Guard early this morning on charges of violating the international maritime boundary and poaching near the Thalaimannar Coast.

According to the Spokesman of Sri Lanka Navy, Captain Akram Alavi, the arrest was made by the Coast Guard with the help of Sri Lankan Navy early this morning. He said that the arrested Indian fishermen will be handed over to the Fisheries Authorities in Thalaimannar later in the day for further legal action.

Before today’s arrest, there were 15 Indian fishermen and 69 Indian fishing vessels in the custody of Sri Lankan authorities.
