Land-Swap deal to be focus of PM Modi’s Bangladesh visit

india bangladehPrime Minister Narendra Modi will leave for Bangladesh Saturday morning morning on a two day visit. India’s Foreign Secretary Dr. S Jaishankar said that Prime Minister would take part in several programs during the historic visit.

He said that the center piece of the visit will be the exchange of instruments of ratification of Land Border Agreement between the two countries. Mr. Jaishankar said that the agreement will help better management of border.

He said that the Prime Minister will lay wreath at National Martyrs’ Memorial and also visit Bangabandhu memorial museum tomorrow. Mr. Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina along with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee will flag off Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala and Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati bus services.

Both the countries will exchange instruments of ratification of India- Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement.

Both the Prime Ministers will hold talks. On Sunday, Mr.Modi will visit Dhakeshwari national temple and Ramakrishna Mission. Later, he will meet President of Bangladesh and leaders of different political parties including former Prime Minister Begum Khalida Zia separately. The Foreign Secretary further said that Mr. Modi will address a meeting at Bangabandhu centre before wrapping up his visit.
Many deals, MoUs to be signed during Modi’s Dhaka visit

A number of deals in the areas of connectivity, trade, security and cultural cooperation would also be inked between Bangladesh and India during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden two-day Dhaka visit.

“Bangladesh and India will sign a number of important agreements that includes bilateral trade deal, Inland Water Protocol, Maritime Water Connectivity and cooperation on standardization of products during Modi’s visit to Bangladesh,” said Foreign Minister of Bngladesh AH Mahmood Ali today.

Besides, Instrument of Ratification on Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) would be exchanged in presence of two prime ministers after their official talks to be held at Prime Minister’s office tomorrow afternoon.

When asked about the Teesta issue, Mahmood Ali said the issue would not come up in discussion during the Indian Prime Minister’s visit since we are working on it. “Everything doesn’t come overnight. It’s a continuous process. Have patience for getting a concrete outcome in this regard,” he added.

The foreign Minister said Bangladesh and India have solved many pending issues as bilateral relations between the two countries have reached to a newer height … so we will be able to definitely solve the rest of the pending issues soon.

The foreign minister said during his visit, the Indian premier will place wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar and Bangabandhu Museum in the city’s Dhanmondi area.

He will pay a courtesy call on President Mohammad Abdul Hamid when Modi will receive “Bangladesh Liberation War Honour” on behalf of Indian former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from the President.
Apart from this, he said the Indian Prime Minister will address a distinguished gathering at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) prior to his departure for India on Sunday evening.
