Amid the growing cow vigilantism in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that ‘killing people in the name of cow protection was not acceptable’ and Mahatma Gandhi would have never approved this trend. He said that “No person in this nation has the right to take the law in his or her own hands.”
“Killing people in the name of ‘gau bhakti’ is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve,” he said.
Prime Minister expressed deep disappointment over the increasing incidents of violence in the country and said ‘non violence’ is a basic life style of India.
“Let’s all work together. Let’s create the India of Mahatma Gandhi’s dreams. Let’s create an India our freedom fighters would be proud of,” the prime minister said.
PM was speaking at the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Shrimad Rajchandraji, a Guru to Mahatma Gandhi, organised at Abhay Ghat near Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad today.
Prime Minister called upon the people to work together to create India of Mahatma Gandhi’s dreams on which the freedom fighters would feel proud. Mr Modi said, thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi have power to mitigate challenges, the world is facing today.
Earlier today, Mr Modi attended the centenary celebration of Sabarmati Ashram and paid tribute to Mahatma’s statue. Prime Minister also inaugurated a special exhibition organised by National Archives as part of the centenary celebrations of the Ashram.
PM will leave will take part in the Samajik Adhikarita Camp in Rajkot. More than 18 thousand specially-abled-Divyangs would be given aids and devices in the presence of PM during the Programme.
This will be country’s biggest ever camp in terms of number of beneficiaries. PM will also dedicate some water and irrigation initiatives to the nation in a function to be organised at Aaji Dam. This dam will be filled with the Narmada water under the Sauni project. Later, PM would lead a roadshow from Aaji dam up to the Rajkot city airport late in the evening.
