Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has addressed a rally in Patparganj area of the national capital urging people to contribute in their opinions in the participatory budget of the government. Mr Kejriwal said, if the experiment is successful, then the way democracy is practised in the country will change and Delhi will lead the country in this arena.
He said, democracy today has turned into a five-year exercise and after elections, leaders turn into gods and misuse public funds. Speaking on the occasion, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, Delhi government every year has around 40,000 crore rupees but after various expenses, around 16,000 crore is left for allocation to different departmental plans. He said, a portion of that money will be spent for the development of around 10-11 constituencies this time through this exercise.
Top Delhi government officials, including Chief Secretary KK Sharma, DM (East) Kunal and the AAP MLAs of the 11 constituencies that are being covered at the launch of the exercise were present at the meeting organised at West Vinod Nagar’s E-block. Similar events were also held in the Mayur Vihar Phase-II and Sanjay Jheel areas during the day.
