Indo-Japan friendship has huge potential for growth: Shinzo Abe

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe here today. The Minister conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to PM Abe. Mr Abe said that India Japan traditional friendship is characterised by heart-to-heart bonds and blessed with a huge potential for growth. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar informed about the meeting via a Twitter message this morning.

Ms Swaraj yesterday held a bilateral meeting with her Japanese counterpart Taro Kono in Tokyo and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties between India and Japan.

Delivering a press statement after 9th India-Japan Foreign Minister’s Strategic Dialogue, she said, India welcomed Japanese investments in India’s flagship programmes like smart cities. She spoke about the ease of doing business in India.

Mrs Swaraj also emphasized the need to act on terror and its sponsors. Recalling the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 visit to Japan, she said, Mr Modi will visit Japan this year.

On the sidelines of the strategic dialogue, the two countries also signed documents related to infrastructure projects like Mumbai Metro, Sea Water desalination plant in Chennai and Himachal Pradesh Forest Ecosystem Management among others.
