Olympic silver medalist PV Sindhu today won against two-time India Open badminton champion Saina Nehwal in straight games to book a berth in the semi-final of the India Open World Super Series badminton championship at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here.
PV Sindhu has entered the women’s singles semi-final of the India Open Badminton Super Series 2017. In a thrilling contest, she beat her compatriot Saina Nehwal 21-16, 22-20 in the quarter-finals in New Delhi today.
Sindhu will now face second seeded Korean shuttler Sung Ji Hyun in the semis. Hyun had earlier humbled defending champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-16, 22-20.
This was the second time that the Indian heavyweights Sindhu and Saina clashed at the international level. When they met during the final of the 2014 Syed Modi Grand Prix in Lucknow, it was London 2012 bronze winner Saina who prevailed in straight games.
