GMR Aviation Academy joins hand with Rajiv Gandhi Aviation University

· Introduces 1st of its kind joint PG Diploma in Aviation/Airport Operations
· One year PG diploma course to facilitate and promote professional aviation studies

GMRGMR Aviation Academy (GMR AA), the Aviation/Airport Training arm of the GMR Group, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University (RGNAU) for a joint Post Graduate Diploma in “Aviation/Airport Operations”.

The MoU is signed by Mr. P S Nair, whole-time Director, GMR Airports Ltd and Air Vice Marshal Nalin Tandon, AVSM, VM (Retd), Vice Chancellor, RGNAU in the august presence of the Hon’ble Minister for Civil Aviation – Mr. A Gajapathi Raju and Union Secretary for Civil Aviation – Mr. Rajiv Nayan Choubey among other dignitaries.

This is the first of its kind PG diploma course in Aviation/Airport Operations for graduates aspiring to join the Aviation Industry. The objective of the MoU is to facilitate and promote professional aviation studies and provide in-depth knowledge of the functioning of an airport in particular and the Aviation subsets, in general. The comprehensive academic, technical and practical exposure to students is drawn from highly technical ICAO docs and manuals, followed by practical training under the supervision of experienced mentors in a live airport environment. This is a one year course that includes a mix of theory and practical on-the-job training at the state-of-the-art GMR led airports at Hyderabad/Delhi.

Commenting on the development, Mr PS Nair, whole-time Director, GMR Airports Ltd, said: “It is a moment of great honour that GMR Aviation Academy has signed an MoU with RGNAU to provide the much needed Post Graduate diploma in Aviation/Airport operations. It is estimated that the Aviation industry in India will require close to 1 million skilled personnel over the next 10 – 15 years which will pose a great challenge if adequate number of people are not trained in this highly specialized and complex area.

The GMR Academy has its own distinctive advantage of utilizing the airport facilities for hands-on practical experience. With the association with RGNAU, the GMR Aviation Academy has attained a new height of excellence and exposure.”

AVM Nalin Kumar Tandon, AVSM, VM (Retd), Vice Chancellor, RGNAU said “The Indian civil aviation sector is currently growing at approximately 20% and is expected to be the 3rd largest market by 2020. With such positive, India undoubtedly has the potential to become a significant part of the global supply chain. This will in turn steer demand for trained professionals in the field of aviation”.

RGNAU has been set up with the mandate of being a premier institute for aviation studies in India. With the growing need for skilled manpower in the Indian aviation industry and limited availability of certification programs for skill enhancement, it is of paramount importance that RGNAU realizes its vision and takes necessary steps to address this need. This collaboration with GMR Aviation Academy for offering the PG Diploma Program is one such step in this direction and shall provide industry with trained professionals which are deployment-ready from day one.
