The organizers of the FIFA U_17 World Cup to be held in the country in October Friday celebrated the sale of tickets for the event crossing the one-lakh mark.
The World Cup got its 100,000th ticket holder when Arjun Sachdeva purchased his tickets for Group A matches in New Delhi.
The LOC will reward Sachdeva with World Cup memorabilia for holding this ticket .

Group A: India, USA, Colombia, Ghana
Group B: Paraguay, Mali, New Zealand, Turkey
Group C: Iran, Guinea, Germany, Costa Rica
Group D: Korea DPR, Niger, Brazil, Spain
Group E: Honduras, Japan, New Caledonia, France
Group F: Iraq, Mexico, Chile, England
The tournament scheduled to be held between 6th and 28th October will be played across six cities- in New Delhi, Kolkata,Navi Mumbai,Margao,Guwahati and Kochi.
The sale of tickets opened on 16 May with former Spain and Barcelona defender Carles Puyol giving the first ticket to grand daughter-in-law of Shivdas Bhaduri, the captain of Mohun Bagan team that defeated English side East Yorkshire Regiment to win the IFA Shield in 1911.
“100,000 of the 139,760 sales put up on sale so far have been snapped up for FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017, confirming the country’s huge interest in the first FIFA tournament in India.””said the organizers
“The fact that we have already sold 100,000 tickets for the World Cup when we are still 84 days from it, speaks volumes of the interest from fans into coming and watch the Tournament.” commented Tournament Director of the Local Organising Committee, Javier Ceppi.
“Ever since we opened the sales, it has defied the usual pattern for events here, where people wake up at the last minute and get the tickets then. We already have 100,000 fans that want to come to the stadiums, and it is very exciting.
“We are on the right track to show the whole world, full stadiums for the World Cup,” He added
Phase II of the ticket sales began immediately after the Official Draw took place on July 7th.
The available inventory for this phase in Kochi and Kolkata was sold out on 10th July . Guwahati too, is edging closer to exhausting its inventory in this phase.
