Paraguay made it three wins out of three in the opening stage of their Indian adventure, beating Turkey 3-1 in Mumbai at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
A classy quick-fire double from Giovanni Bogado and Fernando Cardozo at the end of the first half left Turkey with it all to do after the break, and their task became near-impossible after Antonio Galeano added a third just after the hour mark.
It started off in rather less celebratory fashion for the Los Guaranies, who saw Anibal Vega’s penalty saved in just the second minute by Berke Ozer. The promising young Turkey goalkeeper could do little to keep his team in the match after that however.
First, Bogado scored with a lovely free-kick from 25 yards that curled over the wall and in off the underside of the bar. Two minutes later, Blas Armoa broke free down the left wing and found Cardozo, who did well to flick the ball from behind him inside the far post.
Again the goalkeeper had no chance on the third goal as Galeano’s left-footed shot deflected cruelly off a defender and looped into the net.
But Turkey proved proud competitors and they found a consolation in second-half injury time from Kerem Kesgin’s powerful shot from the edge of the area.
