At least eight policemen have been killed and three others injured in a brazen attack by terrorists on a security check point in southwest Egypt, the latest in a series of assaults targeting security personnel.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement that the attack at Al-Naqb in Egypt’s El-Wadi el-Gedeed governorate, 70 km from Kharga city, took place last night in which two of the attackers were killed during the gun-battle that ensued.
The security forces launched a hunt for the remaining attackers who managed to escape after the assault, it said. No terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Egypt has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the January 2011 revolution that toppled president Hosni Mubarak.
