Election Commission has found bribery remarks of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as violation of model code of conduct and asked him to be careful in the future. In its order, the Commission said all leaders especially those who occupy high constitutional positions are expected to ensure and promote sanctity of electoral process.
It said the public utterances by such persons, even remotely giving indication of condoning act of bribe in connection with election, are not acceptable.
Earlier, the poll body had issued notice to Mr. Parrikar following the complaints by AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Goa Forward Party against him. Mr. Parrikar had made remarks asking people to accept money from others but vote for the BJP at a election rally in Goa on 29th of last month.
