BJP will oppose any type of economic exploitation of the consumers of water.
He told that by paying double price of the new water meters under an economic conspiracy these are being purchased from favourite companies. There is bungling in the purchase of these meters. BJP demands CBI enquiry into the water meter purchase bungling.
He said that according to the data of DJB there are 14.5 lakh water connection in Delhi. There are 3.25 lakh such consumers whose meters are either not working or the meters have not been installed. According to orders of DJB any consumer can install ISI mark water meter. Gupta said that the DJB has invited tenders for the purchase of five lakh new meters at double rates from favourite companies. Previously 2.5 lakh meters had been purchased.
This way DJB has planned to purchase total number of 7.5 lakh new meters at double rates. This indicates heavy corruption. When DJB itself admits that about 3.25 lakh consumers do not have meters then why five lakh new meters are being installed? Previously 2.5 lakh new meters have been installed according to the announcement made by the CEO of DJB.
It may be mentioned that according to the CEO of DJB Ramesh Negi, Delhi needs 1080 MGD of water per day, but the DJB has capacity to treat only 850 MGD of water. Actually 850 MGD of water is not treated on any day. On an average the water treatment plant of DJB treat 650 MGD of water only. Out of this 40% water is lost due to theft. The Chief Minister, Prime Minister and Water Resources Minister have knowledge of this theft being committed in the name of leakage. Since the Delhi Government is partner in the theft in the name of leakage, the DJB, Chief Minister, Delhi Government have never seriously tried to prevent water theft.
Now the Chief Minister has started privatisation of water from Malviya Nagar and Vasant Vihar on the 20th June. The billing work of water supply has already been assigned to a private company. Since this work has been given to a private company, the consumers are being served 5 to 15 times higher bills even when their meters are in order. The complaint of consumers is not being heard any where. Hence people are going to the Lok Adalat and Consumer Forum for complaining against the inflated bills. The Chief Minister plans to privatise water supply in Delhi on the lines of power supply in phases so that the allegations against DJB may go against the water supply companies and Delhi Government may be continue to benefit.
