The Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi today presented a Rs.41,129 crore budget for the 2015-16 fiscal for the national capital, earmarking Rs.9,836 crore for the education sector.
The allocation to education is 106 percent more than the previous fiscal’s total.
Health has received the second highest allocation of Rs.4,787 crore, followed by transport (Rs.5,085 crore), which is 23 percent more than the allocation of 2014-15.
Presenting the maiden budget 2015-16, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia said, his government is serious to improve the educational facilities in the city.
A total of 9836 crore rupees have been proposed for education in the current financial year. Mr Sisodia said, efforts are being made to develop Delhi as Skill Centre. He presented budgetary estimates of 41,129 crore rupees of which 19,000 crore rupees are under plan outlay and 22,129 crore rupees non-plan outlay. He said, five thousand 908 crore rupees have been allocated for the three Municipal Corporations.
The Minister also said, 253 crore rupees have been proposed for Swaraj Fund under which people of the different constituencies will decide how and on which project the allocated money should be used. Giving emphasis on women security, Mr Sisodia said, six new government hostels will be constructed and CCTV cameras will be installed in all the DTC buses. He also announced 5,500 permits for new auto rickshaws and 1380 new semi-floor buses will be introduced by the end of the next year. The Minister proposed 4,787 crore rupees to improve health services in Delhi. He said, the amount is 45 per per more compared to the last financial year.
A total of Rs.1,690 crore has been set aside for power and water subsidy, a key Aam Aadmi Party promise to the electorate.
