Delhi Government has asked the Delhi Electric Regulatory Commission (DERC) to implement daily penalty on power outages. The direction was issued in the wake of the complaints of unscheduled power cut in the city. Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain said that DERC will put the schedule of power cuts in different parts of the city in advance for next 15 days on its website. He said, in case of an unscheduled power cut except major conditions, the supply will be restored within one hour, if it is affecting large area.
He said, if the power distribution companies fail to do so then the penalty will be 50 rupees per hour per consumer for first 2 hours followed by 100 rupees per hour per consumer. In case of power disruption of an individual consumer the supply will be restored within 3 hours of complaint failing which the penalty will be 100 rupees per hour. All payments of compensation will be made suo-motu by the companies by way of adjustment against current or future bills of concerned consumers and if it is not paid, the amount of compensation will be 5,000 rupees or five times the compensation whichever is higher.
