In the second Cricket Test against India at Colombo, forced to follow on, Sri Lanka finished Day Three today trailing by 230 runs with eight second innings wickets in hand, Earlier, the hosts conceded their highest-ever first innings lead of 439 runs in Test cricket when they were bowled out for a paltry 183 in the first innings. They had resumed the day at their overnight 50 for 2.
For India, Ravichandran Ashwin picked up his 26th five-wicket haul in Test cricket with a tally of five for 69. Kusal Mendis and opener Karunaratne fought back in the second innings displaying their best batting performance.
The two put on 191 runs for the second wicket. In the process, Mendis got his third Test century and was out for 110. At stumps, Karunaratne on 92, and Malinda Pushpakumara on 2 were at the crease.
India had made a mammoth 622 for 9 declared in their first innings. India lead the three-match series 1-0 after winning the first Test in Galle by 304 runs.
