NEW DELHI: Prominent political, religious and social personalities of the country have expressed deep shock and dismay over the death of renowned Islamic scholar and the rector of renowned Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Marghoobur Rahman.
Maulana passed away on Wednesday morning in his hometown Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh at the age of 96. The president of Jamiat Ulma- e Hind Moulana Arshad Madnai has termed his death as big loss to the country and the community. “His death has left a void that cannot be filled” he said while praising his role in the educational development of the community. The president of the other group of JUH Qari Muhammad Usman has also expressed similar view over his death. He said Maulana was a great scholar and thinker.
Expressing sorrow over his death Maulna Mahmood Madani, MP and leader of JUH said it was a personal loss to him as well as a great loss to education of the community.
Syed Ahmad Bukhari of the Jama Masjid said that the way he has served the Darul Uloom would always be remembered by the community. Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha K Rahman Khan in his message said that the community has lost a great personality which gave them direction. The chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Moulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri also expressed grief over his death saying it is as big loss to the community. Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah In his condolence message termed him as great Islamic scholar and conveyed his sympathy with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul.
Maulna Muhammad Salim Qasmi, Maulna Abdul Khaliq Madrasi and several other people have also condoled the death of Maulana Marghoob.
Maulana Marghoobur Rahman was born in 1914 in Bijnor, he went to Darul Uloom Deoband in 1929 to get Islamic education and studied there under the guidance of Shaikhul Islam Maulana Hussain Ahmed Madani and other great Ulama of that time.
He held the post of Mohtmim (Rector/VC) of Darul Uloom Deoband for thirty years (from 1981-2010). This period is bright era of the history of Darul Uloom Deoband. Darul Uloom Deoband made extraordinary progress under his administration and it developed leaps and bounds. Numerous huge buildings constructed, the old ones were renovated, several educational departments were launched and many reforms were introduced in the education system.
Hadhrat Maulana Marghoobur Rahman graduated from Darul Uloom Deoband in 1352 (1932). He was appointed as Member Shura of Darul Uloom Deoband in 1382 (1962). Later, after the 100th anniversary of Darul Uloom Deoband in 1982, he was assigned the post of Mohtamim. He undertook the post in a critical time and served Darul Uloom in exemplary style with his god-gifted ability and insight.
