The CM on Monday chaired the Flood Control Apex Committee Meeting wherein she instructed to constitute a High Level Committee under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to monitor all matters relating to water-logging, flood and cleanliness on roads.
The meeting was attended by the Revenue Minister Dr. A.K. Walia, PWD Minister Mr Raj Kumar Chauhan, Labour Minister , Mr Ramakant Goswami, Women & Child Development Minister, Prof. Kiran Walia, a number of MLAs, the Chief Secretary, Mr P.K. Tripathi, Commissioner (MCD) Mr K.S. Mehra, Chairman, NDMC Mr Parimal Rai, Development
Commissioner Mr Dharmender and senior officers from MCD, NDMC, Delhi Police, Transport, Health, Home Guards and Civil Defence, Food & Supplies, Army, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, DDA, Education, PWD, DISCOMs, DJB, Environment, Dy. Commissioners (Revenue).
Mrs Dikshit stated that Flood Control Order 2011 which was issued this month earlier has come into force. Secretary (Revenue)-cum-Divisional Commissioner who is in-charge of flood control and relief measures, will function as Convener Secretary of the Committee. A Central Flood Control Room will be established to assist the Apex Committee would function round the clock in the office of the DC(East),LM Bund,Shastri Nagar, Delhi in 15th June to 15th October,2011 or till monsoon.
She stressed upon the need of lifting Malba from roads and silt from the drains. She informed that MCD, DDA,PWD & NDMC shall also certify by 30th June,2011 that drains under their jurisdiction have been made fully operational and that adequate pumping capacity to meet the requirement is available. Delhi Jal Board shall also certify by 30th June,2011 that all sewers have been desilted and all sewage pumping stations including Diesel Generating Sets are in perfect working condition. She also informed that her cabinet colleagues has been also assigned in their respective areas i.e. Prof. Kiran Walia ,South Distt.,Mr Raj Kumar Chauhan, North-West District and West District Mr Haroon Yusuf,South West Distt.,Mr Ramakant Goswami, North & Central Distt.,Mr Arvinder Singh, North-East District and Dr. A.K. Walia East District.
The Traffic Police was instructed to set right all its traffic lights as during last monsoon season. Traffic jam occurred only due to non-functioning of traffic lights. She also instructed to concentrate on traditional water-logging points like Dr. Sen Nursing Home, Model Town near Chhatrasal Stadium, GT Road from Azadpur to Mukarba Chowk. The MCD has installed 118 pumping stations at different locations with generator back-up for disposal of storm water. Mobile pumping units will also remain available in different zones in case of any eventuality. The DISCOMs will ensure round the clock power supply to pumping stations of MCD during monsoon season. The MD has identified 135 critical points. It will also deploy super-suckers in ample number. The instructions have also been issued to DJB, Northern Railway, NHAI, etc. to take appropriate action.
