Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) and Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote Research and Development in Unani Medicine in the Jamia campus.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Prof. Raisur Rahman, Director General, CCRUM and Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, JMI.
Under the MoU Jamia will provide space to CCRUM to establish Hakim Ajmal Khan Institute for Literary and Historical Research in Unani Medicine. The collaboration will involve several academic departments and centres of the university.
The CCRUM will support introduction of various courses in Unani Medicine at JMI and will launch Health Awareness Campaigns and Health Camps in the university campus from time to time.
The CCRUM is also likely to open Unani Medicine OPD in the Ansari Health Centre of JMI which will help users try alternative medicine rooted in India’s tradition.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, JMI Prof. Talat Ahmad said that it was a moment of celebration for Jamia to honour one of its illustrious founders Hakim Ajmal Khan and hoped that the establishment of Hakim Ajmal Khan Institute for Literary and Historical Research in Unani Medicine will offer opportunities to students to engage in credible research in this specific domain of knowledge.
Expressing gratitude towards Jamia, Director General, CCRUM Prof. Raisur Rahman said that the collaboration between the two institutions will mark a new beginning for research in Unani Medicine in India.
Senior administrative and academic officials from the university and top research scientists from the CCRUM were present on the occasion.
