The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at the offices of the Registrar of Births and Deaths in North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) yesterday in connection with the fraudulent issuance of birth certificates and recovered several incriminating documents. A CBI team conducted the raids following information that large scale fraud was going on at the sub-registrar office of NDMC.
A CBI official said that it was alleged that birth certificates were being issued by NDMC officials in lieu of payment of bribes by using unique SDM order number. It was also alleged that multiple birth certificates were being issued on the basis of hospital records of any genuine applicant.
