The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day after repeated short adjournments when it met at 3.00 pm as Opposition continued to press for a statement by the Prime Minister on the issue.
There were heated exchanges between the Treasury and Opposition benches many times. BJP-led Opposition members also trooped into the well of the Houses protesting against the appointment by the Governor.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani questioned the appointment of Lokayukta by the State Governor and called for protecting the federal structure of the country. He said that the party will take up the issue with the President as well.
After repeated disruptions in the proceedings. the Rajya Sabha was adjourned around 2.35 pm till Friday as similar scenes prevailed in the House.
The Upper House, however, passed the S.B.I. Amendment bill amidst din. During zero hour, the leader of the Opposition, Mr. Arun Jaitley raised the issue of Lokayukta’s appointment in Gujarat describing it unconstitutional and mala fide.
