Congress President Sonia Gandhi today alleged that there was an unprecedented centralization of power and authority in the NDA government. Addressing Chief Ministers of Congress ruled states in New Delhi, Mrs Gandhi said, deliberate attempts are being made by the government to bypass Parliament.
She said, on one hand the Prime Minister wants to project himself as champion of good governance, and on the other, he allows his colleagues to make communal remarks. The Congress President said, it is the responsibility of the Central Government to create and maintain conducive atmosphere for cooperation and consensus.
Mrs Gandhi further said that budgetary allocations in key areas like education, health, women and child development and welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes have been cut down by the government. She alleged it is part of a new philosophy of the NDA which abdicates the essential role of the Central government in social and human development and strengthening local self-government institutions in rural and urban India. The Congress President said there are systematic attempts to dismantle the edifice of the welfare state built up over the decades by successive Congress governments.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that NDA government’s Make In India initiative is like a lion that does not roar. Mr Gandhi said, it seems that Make In India will not help in generating employment for the poor. He also targeted the Modi government for not fulfilling promise of providing employment to the youth. Mr Gandhi informed that issue of land bill was discussed in the meeting. He said, the Chief Ministers unanimously voiced that NDA government has forgotten the farmers
