At B-20 Business SummitPM Modi suggests celebrating ‘International Consumer Care Day’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today emphasized the attractiveness of partnership with India for the global business community mentioning India’s young talent pool and its digital revolution. Addressing the B20 Summit India in New Delhi he said business can transform potential into prosperity, obstacles into opportunities, and aspirations into achievements. Whether they are small or big, global or local, businesses can ensure progress for everyone.
The Prime Minister said that India is now a trusted and efficient global supply chain partner. He recalled when the world needed medicines, during the Covid pandemic; India provided life-saving drugs to more than 150 countries. Mr. Modi stressed on the need to largely focus on building mutual trust which was destroyed during the pandemic. He highlighted that India is standing in front of the world with full sensitivity carrying the flag of faith in an atmosphere of mistrust.
The Prime Minister said that India has become the face of the digital revolution. He also emphasized that a profitable market can be sustained when there is a balance in the interest of producers and consumers and treating other countries only as a market will never work. He pointed out that it will harm even the producing countries sooner or later and therefore making everyone equal partners in progress is a way forward.
Prime Minister Modi said Indian Space Research Organization has played a big role in the success of Chandrayaan-3 mission and along with it the Indian industry, MSMEs and private companies also contributed to it. The Prime Minister said that this is the success of both science and industry. Mr Modi said that this time the festive season in India started from 23rd of August itself when Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the moon. He added that this celebration is about accelerating India’s growth and about innovation. He said this celebration is about bringing in sustainability and equality with the help of space technology and this refers to the theme of B20 Summit – R.A.I.S.E: Responsible, Accelerated, Innovative, Sustainable, Equitable Businesses.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the B-20 Business Summit asks businesses to focus on consumer care rather than just celebrating consumer rights day. He also suggested that one day in a year should be observed as ‘international consumer care day’. He also emphasized for integrated approach to deal with issues related to crypto-currencies.
Addressing the Summit the External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar made a strong pitch for a more diversified and more democratic re-globalization. He said, the endeavour now is to seek re-globalization where there would be multiple centres of production, not just of consumption. The External Affairs Minister said that Global South can no longer be at the mercy of a few suppliers. He added, Global South is largely reduced to being a consumer rather than being a producer and could not reap the full benefits of economic change. Dr Jaishankar said, Global South often ended up saddled with unviable debts emanating from opaque initiatives. He said, this was a gradually unfolding crisis in the making, but it was accelerated rapidly by the multiple shocks of debt, COVID, and conflict.  He said, that is where business can make a crucial difference. Dr Jaishankar said, the core mandate of G20 is to promote economic growth and development and it cannot advance if the crucial concerns of the Global South in areas such as debt and finance, sustainable development, climate action, food security, and women-led development are not addressed. He said, a more just, equitable, and participative global order would only happen when there were commensurate investment, trade, and technology decisions directed at the Global South.
Meanwhile, India today handed over the B20 presidency to Brazil to host G20 in 2024. B20 India Chair N Chandrasekaran said that India’s B20 Presidency under the its G20 Presidency worked under the theme of Vasaudeva Katumbakam (One Earth, One Family, One Future). He said, during this period we worked on nine important themes which included empowerment of women and youth, transition towards an Artificial Intelligence world, building a global resilient supply chain and financing for the global economic recovery. He said, the presidency of India’s B20 has been recognized for its effective process, engagement, and consensus-building in generating 54 policy recommendations over the last nine months.
