A confident India today scored a comprehensive victory over Japan in the men’s Asia Cup hockey tournament that began in Dhaka today. It was also a winning debut for Sjoerd Marijne as National Coach. India thrashed Japan by five goals to one in a Group A match. Sunil, Ramandeep Singh, Lalit and Harmanpreet (two goals) were the scorers for India.
The group also consist hosts Bangladesh and arch-rival Pakistan. India will now play on Friday against hosts Bangladesh before taking on Pakistan on Sunday.
Pool B, meanwhile, consists defending champions Korea, Malaysia, China and minnows Oman. In the other match of the day, Pakistan will take on hosts Bangladesh in Pool A.
