Afghanistan thrashed Bangladesh by a huge 136 runs in their final group stage of the Asia Cup 2018 in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
In the chase, barring Shakib Al Hasan (32), Bangladesh lost wicket at quick interval. In the lower-order Mahmudullah (27) also got off to a good start but he was sent back to the dressing room by Rashid Khan, before he could convert his start to a big score.
For Afghanistan, Rashid Khan scalped two wickets for 13 runs. Earlier, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan played brilliant individual knocks as Afghanistan posted 255/7. Shahidi (58) notched up a brilliant half-century on top of the order before he was removed by Rubel Hossain. Later, Rashid Khan (57 not out) and Gulbadin Naib (42 not out) contributed crucial runs in the lower order to help Afghanistan post a challenging total. Rashid and Naib also forged an unbeaten 95-run eighth wicket stand. For Bangladesh, their experienced all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of four for 42.
Earlier Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Afghanistan made 255 losing seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Rashid Khan made 57 runs in 32 balls. Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh who bowled 10 overs, claimed four wickets giving 42 runs.
In Super Four encounters tomorrow, Pakistan meet Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi and India face Bangladesh in Dubai. Both the matches will begin at 5 p.m.
For India, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, fast bowler Shardul Thakur and left-arm spinner Axar Patel ruled out of the on-going Asia Cup due to injuries.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India today confirmed that Deepak Chahar has replaced Pandya in the squad, Ravindra Jadeja will come in for Axar, while Siddharth Kaul will be flown in as reinforcement for Shardul.
India yesterday comprehensively beat Pakistan by eight wickets. Electing to bat after winning the toss, Pakistan were all out for 162 runs in 43.1 overs.
Chasing the target, skipper Rohit Sharma scored 52 off 39 balls while Shikhar Dhawan contributed 46 off 54 balls. India achieved the target in just 29 overs.
