A Delhi Court today remanded Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Manoj Kumar to two day police custody. The MLA was arrested in connection with a case of alleged cheating and land grabbing. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate sent Mr. Kumar to police custody till Saturday after police said some recoveries were to be made from him. The police said that Mr. Kumar had sold a plot to the complainant for six lakh rupees in November 2012 which did not belong to the MLA. The police custody plea was opposed by senior advocate H S Phoolka, who appeared for AAP MLA, saying no notice was issued to the Mr. Kumar and he had joined the investigation whenever he was called to the police station.
Aam Aadmi Party termed the arrest as the political vendetta by the Central government. The party alleged that BJP government is using Delhi Police as a political weapon. AAP leader Sanjay Singh told media that the MLA was arrested in a 2014 case and most of the time, if the case pertains to land and money, usually the police asks parties to approach the civil court.
BJP said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal should answer the people over the arrested of AAP MLA in a land fraud case. Talking to media, Delhi BJP Chief Satish Upadhyay termed the police action as a right step saying that the arrest shows the real face of AAP. Mr. Upadhyay also demanded that police should now arrest AAP MLAs Akhilesh Tripathi and Sanjeev Jha on whose instigation a mob had attacked the Burari Police Station apart from acting against other MLAs against whom police complaint has been lodged.
