AAP govt criticised for allocating Rs 526 cr for ads

Jul 2 @ 11:10 PM

Delhi govt -adAam Aadmi Party led Delhi government has come under attack from all sides for allocating over Rs 526 crore to fund its radio advertisements for the current financial year. BJP leaders today met Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on the issue and urged him to intervene.

Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay alleged that AAP is misusing tax payers’ money on publicity instead of spending on development of the city. He said the AAP government is giving full page advertisements in different newspapers published from other states which is wrong.

Congress also hit out at the AAP alleging that spending public money on self- promotion amounts to corruption. Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken alleged that the city government has cut budget on various infrastructure works and is spending money on its own party workers and consultants. Another party leader Sharmistha Mukherjee also termed the move as the wastage of public money.

Former AAP leader Prashant Bhushan also criticized Delhi government’s move alleging that its new FM radio advertisement is a contempt of court and he will soon bring it into the notice of the Supreme Court.

AAP MLA Pankaj Pushkar also criticized Delhi Chief Minister for allocating a huge amount for FM advertisement and termed it as an exercise of self-publicity. Talking to media in New Delhi, Mr. Pushkar also questioned the appointment of 21 party legislators as parliamentary secretaries by AAP government. He said the AAP is in serious danger of losing its way.

On the other hand, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia defended the decision. Talking to media, Mr. Sisodia said that the AAP government is compelled to take the step as the media has failed to show the work being done by it. He said Delhi government will give all information about the work done by it through the radio advertisements.
