44 killed in bus accident in Himachal Pardesh

AMN /

A Teuni bound private mini bus from Vikasnagar in Uttrakhand fell down in Tons river under Nerwa police station in Himachal Pradesh Wednesday at about 1130 hrs. The transport Minister G.S.Bali told media that 44 passengers were killed in the incident while 12 others injured.

He said that a magisterial inquiry into the accident has been ordered. The rescue teams from Nerwa and Shillai rushed to the spot after getting the information and began rescue work with the help of local people. The injured have been sent to the nearby hospital of Nerwa and Shillai.

Most of the deceased belong to Uttrakhand as the ill-fated mini bus was on its way to Teuni from Vikasnagar. Both the places are in Uttrakhand.

It is a far flung area of the Shimla district and the condition of this road is stated to be very bad. The rescue teams are finding a difficulty rescuing the injured as the spot is too deep from the road.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees to the next of kin of those killed and 50 thousand to the seriously injured in a bus accident near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh.

The amount will be given from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The Prime Minister has expressed grief over the loss of lives due to the accident and conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased.
