Flood has claimed 38 lives so far, especially in eastern parts of the Uttar Pradesh. About 15 lakh people in 2000 villages of 37 districts were badly hit by the natural fury.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the officials to ensure airdropping of food packets in flood affected areas in case the marooned areas were inaccessible even by boats.
Mr yogi is on visit to Gorakhpur, Maharajganj and Kushi Nagar flood affected districts. It is his second visit to Gorakhpur and Maharajganj in the current spell of floods in the State.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath yesterday undertook an aerial survey of the worst a affected areas in Balrampur and Siddharthnagar districts to take stock of the situation. 646 flood outposts have been set up and 209 relief camps were operational in which 19,564 people have taken shelter across the State.
Besides, about 50000 people have been shifted to safer places with the help of SSB, NDRF and PAC personnel.
In Gorakhpur movement of traffic on the Gorakhpur-Sonauli road towards Nepal has come to a standstill as waters of the Rohin river has inundated Maniram township and the national highway.
In Bahraich district rivers Ghaghra and Saryu are continously rising and have affected several villages in Mahsi, Nanpara and Kaiserganj areas.
In Barabanki, about 50 metres of the Elgin-Charsadi embankment has been submerged affecting eight villages. Sharda is also flowing above the red mark at Lakhimpur Kheri.
