3 terrorists killed in Shopian encounter in J&K

Three terrorists were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces at Zainapora in Shopian district in Jammu and Kasmir. Director General of Police SP Vaid said, Security forces launched a cordon and search operation following information about presence of terrorists in Avneera village of Zainapora area yesterday.

As the forces were conducting searches, the terrorists opened fire on them which was retaliated by the law enforcement personnel, triggering a gunfight. Our correspondent reports that the slain terrorists were identified as local Hizbul Mujahideen cadres. Three rifles were also recovered from the encounter site.

Earlier, two Army men were martyred and three others injured in the encounter. In another incident, an Army jawan was martyred as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control in the Poonch sector last evening.
